Best solution for offsite backups?

by gregzartman » Mon Apr 18, 2016 3:30 pm

I am running a couple image backup jobs to backup windows server 2012R2 OS drive to an iSCSI tartget and also my data drive to another iSCSI target.

What I'd like to do is send these backups offsite. What is the best way to do this? Should I be using a different backup scheme like the file protection solution?

Thanks,

Hi Greg,

It's Tim from BackupAssist.

BackupAssist has the Offsite backup add-on which uses Rsync to transfer files offsite. Please note that this add-on does not work well when transferring large files such as VHDs and is best used for only transferring critical files offsite.

For more information on the Offsite backup add-on, please refer to the following user guide: https://www.backupassist.com/downloads/ ... rguide.pdf

We also do not recommend copying image backups from their original backup location as this will usually cause backup history\vss snapshots to be lost.

BackupAssist does offer the option to run Image backups to a Data container which is a VHD that can be copied and transferred offsite.

For more information on Data containers, please refer to the following user guide: https://www.backupassist.com/downloads/ ... ainers.pdf

I hope this helps, Greg.
