Bare Metal Restore

Hi,

I am testing my Bare metal restore and have come across some problems:

1) RecoverAssist Restores the C:\ drive but not the D:\ (datastore) drive
2) When Windows starts up, the network information is not correct (It's treating the NICs as new)

Setup:

Datastore - Raid 5 (4 disks)
BackupAssist 8.0.3022

Backup type: System Protection
Destination iSCSI
Backup the Entire System :
Critical Volumes
Windows System State
Local Disk C:
Datastore F:
SQl Server

Backup Successful and Verified - No Errors
Bootable USB Recovery Media created with RecoverAssist
Network and RAID drivers included

(Identical Hardware to Live System)
Dell PowerEdge server T420
Windows Server 2008 R2
OS - Raid 1 (2 disks)
Datastore - Raid 5 (4 disks)

Recovery Process Followed:
1) Boot system - Configure RAID
2) Boot to RecoverAssist
3) Load Raid drivers
4) Connect to iSCSI target
5) Find most recent backup
6) Start recovery process
7) RA copies backup to C:, finishes and reboots
Windows Server Boots
9) C: drive fine ;
10) No data on F: drive ;
11) Network cards set to DHCP (should have static info)

Any idea why the F: drive wasn't restored? Is there further steps I should be taking?

It's Tim from BackupAssist.

Sorry to hear that you are having issues with restoring from your backup.

You have mentioned that you are restoring to similar hardware.

Please confirm that the disks that you are restoring to are the same size or larger than the original disk as this is a requirement from Windows.

Also ensure that the backup did not complete without any warnings and it was fully successful.

If the problem persists, send in system diagnostics for us to review the setup of the backup that you are restoring from.

To submit diagnostics:

1) Go to Contact Support ( via 'Help > Feedback & Support > Click on Contact Support

2) Fill out the form and ensure that the Submit system diagnostics checkbox at the bottom is checked.

If this does not work:

3) Launch the Diagnostics.exe file located in the BackupAssist install folder: C:\Program Files\BackupAssist v8\Diagnostics.exe


If you do not receive an auto-response email from us or have any issues using our automated support tool please follow these steps to manually send in your diagnostics file:

1. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data (for XP and Server 2003)
Go to C:\ProgramData\ (for Vista, Win7 or Server 2008, Server 2012)

2. Email support@backupassist.com a zipped version of the following folder: BackupAssist vX (Where X is the version that you are running)


If you find this file is too large to e-mail, you can trim down the size of the logs by removing anything older than a week within the following folders under the BackupAssist folder

- Summaries
- History
- Reports
- Temp

The Temp folder, is the default destination for PST and SQL backups to be stored during the backup process, so if there are any of these types of backups contained you can remove these as well as we don't require them.

If the file is up to 300MB in size, you can upload it to http://www.sendspace.com for free and send us the download link.
