Need Guidance on Setting up Destination(s)...

I have installed BUAssist on a new 2012 r2 server. The goal is to use it with 2 external eSata drives which are connected to a dual port controller card.

I have configured BUAssist using the daily full + weekly rotation setup. I manually ran the job once, and it worked fine. I then swapped the drives and attempted again, but then BUAssist was not happy because the second drive had a different letter. Windows will not allow me to assign the same letter to both drives even if only one is connected at a time.

How do I correctly configure BUAssist so that it will accept either drive as a valid target? I have checked "back up even if wrong drive letter"... I am pretty sure I prepared both drives when doing original set up... I have tried with both "Media Checking" and "backup anyway" on and with Media Checking off...

What's the secret? Thank you!

I am interested in buying this product for our clients but lack of response is unnerving... Perhaps this is the wrong forum?

It's Tim from BackupAssist.

Sorry for the delay in providing a response to your query.

Usually, re-preparing all of the backup drives in BackupAssist will resolve such issues.

If the problem persists, send in system diagnostics for us to review and advise further.

To submit diagnostics:

1) Go to Contact Support ( via 'Help > Feedback & Support > Click on Contact Support

2) Fill out the form and ensure that the Submit system diagnostics checkbox at the bottom is checked.

If this does not work:

3) Launch the Diagnostics.exe file located in the BackupAssist install folder: C:\Program Files\BackupAssist v8\Diagnostics.exe


If you do not receive an auto-response email from us or have any issues using our automated support tool please follow these steps to manually send in your diagnostics file:

1. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data (for XP and Server 2003)
Go to C:\ProgramData\ (for Vista, Win7 or Server 2008, Server 2012)

2. Email support@backupassist.com a zipped version of the following folder: BackupAssist vX (Where X is the version that you are running)


If you find this file is too large to e-mail, you can trim down the size of the logs by removing anything older than a week within the following folders under the BackupAssist folder

- Summaries
- History
- Reports
- Temp

The Temp folder, is the default destination for PST and SQL backups to be stored during the backup process, so if there are any of these types of backups contained you can remove these as well as we don't require them.

If the file is up to 300MB in size, you can upload it to http://www.sendspace.com for free and send us the download link.

Sorry I have to ask, but: How do I "re-prepare" the drives? I don't seem to see where to do that... Do I have to create a new job?

You can prepare or re-prepare media by selection the option across the top of the screen when editing the job.
