7z restore

Postby joser » Thu Oct 18, 2007 11:26 pm

Hello,

I have backup files in the 7z format and I'm trying to restore some data, Windows Backup indicates that it does not recognize this files format.

This is the name of the files created by Backup Assist: 2007-07-13.bkf.7z

How can I catalog this file and attempt to restore some data?

We are using SBS 2003 with backups to second local disk and a copy to a removable disk.

Hi Joser,

This is Belinda from BackupAssist Technical support. Thanks for posting your query to our forum.

As you have set 7z to compress the file when you are backing up you will need to first de-compress the backup file before trying a restore operation.

You can download the 7z software from their official website here:- http://www.7-zip.org/ and use this utility to de-compress the backup file back to a straight .bkf format that NTBackup will be able to recognise and manipulate.

If you have any futher queries or enquiries please don't hesitate to ask.

Kind Regards.
