Running BA with a user account

by bert » Sat Dec 27, 2014 8:14 am

Hi BackupAssist,

I have always run BA on the server using a domain admin account. As this is not best practices for security, I changed the account to a non-admin account. Everything works fine except BackupAssist's Granular Email backup, which throws tons of errors. I do have the settings to run as an account with full privileges. When I change it back to a domain admin account it works fine. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Bert

PS Not sure if this should be a separate question, but it seemed too trivial for that. But, when I open BA, it asks me if I wish to purchase update protection. If I select yes, it freezes and then crashes. If I x out of it, it is fine.

Hi Bert,

It's Stuart here, thanks for posting.

I'm not sure why you believe using a domain admin account is a security issue.

Can you confirm that you've run through the following document? This gives the best source of what permissions are required to backup an Exchange server completely:
