Hi there,

Just starting and have 1 job which is backing up student profile & work from 3 Servers to a Nas Drive.
1st attempt on Friday the job failed ~ having read a few other threads here I've since tweaked settings relating to best practices for backing up to a Nas. (open file, replication etc.)
BA is using a domain admin account which I've doubled checked has explicit full permissions, also have the correct user details for the Nas.
Tried the same job twice since and both have failed around the same point with a read access denied error.

I can access these locations fine with aforementioned user accounts. Not sure what to do?

I'm afraid that I'll require some additional information from you.

Would it be possible for you to send in a set of diagnostic information from BackupAssist? This will give us a lot more information to run on to be able to help resolve this quickly for you.

The steps to submit diagnostics are as follows:
1. Open BackupAssist.
2. Click on the Help menu across the top of the console.
3. Select Feedback and Support... from the drop down menu.
4. Click on Contact Support.
5. Enter the details asked for:

Valid E-mail Address: (so we know where to send our answer to your question).
Subject: Brief overview of your query.
Message: A detailed overview of exactly what your query is about. The more information you give here will make it easier for our support team to assist you.

Make sure the tick box stating 'Submit system diagnostics to help our support team with your query' is ticked and this will zip all your BackupAssist settings so that we can review these specifically for your environment.

If you have further issues, please browse to:

32-bit OS: C:\Program Files\BackupAssist vX (where X is the version number you're running)
64-bit OS: C:\Program Files (x86)\BackupAssist vX (where X is the version number you're running)
Browse for a file named BackupAssistDiagnostics.zip and send this to us directly.

Hi, I believe I may have found a solution to my problem however I'm not 100% how to implement it.

It is a very specific directory/set of files which are causing the issue and I wish to exclude them to prevent the errors.

I'm not sure however how to write the path in the exclusion so that it does it for all users accounts.

i.e.

Server\Share\user111\My Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CLR Security Config\
Server\Share\user222\My Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CLR Security Config\
Server\Share\user333\My Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CLR Security Config\

I assume the exclusion would be something like.

Server\Share\%profile%\My Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CLR Security Config\*.*

However this does not work and I'm not sure the correct syntax?

Unless you can exclude the files en mass with a wildcard, ie *.exe, you will need to make an entry with the specific path for each file, for each user.

That is very unfortunate.

The files generate themselves have random extensions i.e

User1 might be .10301456
while
User2 might be .02055601

We have a few hundred users.

I was hoping there would be some kind of variable that would enable me to exclude all from that location accross all users.

Back to the drawing board.

Perhaps you could setup a script to move the files to a subdirectory that could excluded?

I'm not particularly adept with scripting.

Problem is these files seems to have very special permissions that cannot (or should not) be changed. (even as a domain admin I cannot access these files)
So I would assume that even a script would fail to do anything with the files.

Is there really no way of just excluding a specific dir with variable prefix?
Surely I cannot be the only person who has faced such an issue?

Perhaps there is a 'under the hood' way for me to disable or increase the amount of errors to which the backup would otherwise fail?

For example I can live with BA telling me i have 1000's of 'false positive/doesn't concern me' errors,
however I cannot live with the backup just stopping all together after X number of errors and failing the entire backup job..

Hello,

Sorry but there is no way to exclude at the folder leve, at this time.

You can edit the maximum number of skipped files, up to 1000.

You'll find this in the Replication options section when editing the job.

Thank you I will adjust this setting and hopefully get a successful backup!
I've split my job into 3 so now I effectively have a buffer of 3000 instead, not clean but I can work with that.
